Notes from the Underground

March 16, 2026

The first installment of my extended interview on the Pulp Underground discussion forum is now live. Pulp Underground co-host Grace Ximenez and I spent almost the entire month of February and a few days in March making our way through a comprehensive Q&A series via email. The resulting discussion – which Grace will continue to roll out on a series of installments in the forum over the next several days – will cover a range of topics: my back story and creative influences; how and when and why I took the dive into fiction writing after many years in journalism and marketing; my ongoing fascination with retro pop culture dating all the way back to the 1930s; the founding of Flinch Books in 2015; a sampling of my fiction and nonfiction writing credits to date; and some other topics too.

Here’s the good news for those who might not be familiar with Pulp Underground: You can access the interview in its entirety even if you’re not a registered member of the forum. Better yet, you can even jump in with a comment or a question if you’d like – either for me, for Grace, or for anyone else who joins the discussion.

Be sure to visit the forum and check in on the chat. We’re all on some version of the hero’s journey, so you might find some part of my story that resonates with your own.
