This afternoon I’m recording an episode of WTF Live, a brand-new podcast produced by Pretty Good Books, an indie bookstore located in Ashtabula, OH, and hosted by Moriah Jackson, the Iowa-based indie author of The Echoes and When the Levee Breaks.
The title of the podcast is an abbreviation for Words That Flow, so there’s no need to get hot and bothered by the potential for any salty language lurking under the surface. The discussions explore the indie author experience, and each episode will be what Moriah calls “a masterclass in creativity—a chance to hear directly from the people shaping literature today.”
She adds: “We dig into the challenges they’ve overcome, the inspiration behind their work, the revision process, the publishing journey, and everything in between. These are candid, substantive conversations that go beyond surface-level promotion.”
I met Moriah a couple years ago at the Indie Author Bash, an annual book fair launched in 2023 by Pretty Good Books. The event, which originally took place inside the Ashtabula bookshop owned and operated by Joe Zinski and his wife Sarah, has since undergone an incremental process of expansion and rebranding, and is now known as BookBash, which hosted more than a hundred authors in a much larger venue this past April.
Moriah sat at a table directly across the aisle from me at BookBash this year, and we had some interesting conversations throughout the day. I’m looking forward to more of the same this afternoon.
The first episodes of WTF Live are scheduled for release on a weekly basis, beginning in early July. Keep an eye on this space for details about where and how to access it, and when my episode will see the light of day.
